![]() Breakfast buffet-a couple notches up from Hampton Inn’s offerings - was served each morning in a “coulda-been-warmer” courtyard breakfast room. Our room was warm and beautiful with a massive, spoil-you-rotten four-postered and canopied bed, a jetted tub, wicked fast and FREE (!) WiFi and views of courtyards, Spanish moss and magnolia trees that made our imaginations flutter. ![]() And a divine three nights it turned out to be. We get to spend three nights here? Really? Really. DH and I stood in complete disbelief as we noted the sheer SIZE of our room along with its jaw-dropping antique furnishings. Because of the cold and because of a light house, we were being moved from our assigned room on the courtyard to the cozy main house and into a room fit for any general. Relax.” She had good news for road weary travelers. We stayed too long in Bluffton and it was full darkness-not to mention a below freezing temperature- before we hopped into our trusty car and asked our GPS to navigate our way along back roads to Savannah, and what a perverse little journey that turned out to be! We arrived at last at the Eliza Thompson House (ETH) plenty cranky at the very end of the wine and nibbles party but the dedicated hostess Nell assessed our jangled nerves and implored us to “Just breathe. We hope you’ll give us another opportunity to better demonstrate our hospitality on your next visit to Savannah. Again, we are very sorry you did not enjoy your stay. We are taking a look at our communications on parking charges to ensure future guests are well notified. We don’t like surprises either that’s why we do try to let our guest know about the parking, including on the confirmation letter. ![]() The Eliza Thompson House provides the passes for sale as a convenience to our guests. Regarding your concerns about the parking, please know that the $12 fee is set by the City of Savannah. We thank you very much for letting us know. However, your complaint has now prompted our staff to tell future guests that the fountain does stay on all night. Had we known the fountain was disturbing to you, we would have been more than happy to move you to another room. We have so many guests who do enjoy the fountain at night that do not mention it as a potential problem when guests book a room. We really enjoyed our stay with the Eliza Thompson house and will stay there again if we find ourselves back in Savannah.ĭear NeilB2271, I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay at the Eliza Thompson House. Breakfast was excellent, with lots of options and the same family like atmosphere. When we returned from dinner, everyone picked right up where we left off, the majority of the group lasting until the early hours of the morning. It reminded me of late nights on the Greek islands. Many of the guests had been coming for years, and we sat around exchanging travel and life stories along with comparing notes on local restaurants and tourist activities. Before dinner they hold a 'happy hour.' The food and wine were good, but the conversation was better. Perhaps the best part of the stay was the other guests. I was happy with our choice of a garden view room, the fountain was loud at night, but I found the water sound soothing. The rooms were clean and comfortable and as other reviews noted, the bathrooms were small, but it's an old house so it was to be expected. If we didn't have the car, I would have been annoyed. Before arriving I had asked if they could store our luggage until our room was ready, they had said yes, but when we arrived our only option was to leave it out in the drawing room, so we ended up locking it back in the trunk. Wanting to make the most of our stay we arrived early, our room wasn't ready, which wasn't surprising because we were so early. They were very prompt with responding and had great recommendations, many of which we followed. After booking out room I contacted the hotel looking for advice on must sees and places to eat during our stay. In November my husband and I decided to take a quick overnight trip up to Savannah while visiting family in Florida.
